Kate Andrews
equivalents
02.09.22–01.10.22
On the occasion of the DC Open, SETAREH X is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition with Kate Andrews.
Kate Andrews uses a wide variety of processes in her artistic practice, such as refined oil painting, detailed and differentiated drawings as well as sculptural arrangements with which she carefully extends her work into the surrounding space. Andrews’ sensitive images shift between concrete and ephemeral, between material and atmospheric.Besides the compositorial clarity, there consistantly remains an aspect that cannot be entirely resolved when observing these works.

In addition to reminiscences of photography and references to digital imagery, her nuanced paintings and drawings primarily convey moods and exceptional colour impressions. Her virtuously and precisely executed oil paintings potentially recall long exposures while areas of canvas left blank – which subtly frame the painting surface – may remind of polaroid photography or windows within image editing programs.
