Maike Illies
Maike Illies (b. 1996 in Mayen)
Maike Illies explores themes of the body and its perception in her works. Her paintings offer an expansive and conceptual approach to re-imagining the internal processes of the mind, body, and spirit. They are given physical forms that move beyond biological systems where space and dimension are altered. Illies has previously been featured at SETAREH X in Düsseldorf with her solo exhibition subkutan, referencing the exploration of the microscopic-like perspectives within her painterly world. The exhibition invited viewers to immerse themselves into the feelings of the inner-body through enlarged scenes.
Maike Illies attended the Friedrich Wilhelm University Bonn and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where she studied under Stefan Kürten and graduated under Prof. Sabrina Fritsch. In 2020, she had her first solo exhibition at KAK, Zossener 44 in Berlin. In 2022, Maike Illies exhibited at Nella Beljan Gallery in Berlin and at SETAREH X with her solo exhibition, subkutan.
