GREGOR GLEIWITZ
b. 1977, based in Berlin, DE
Gregor Gleiwitz’s large-scale paintings and his precisely elaborated miniatures present an imagery between abstraction and almost figurative levels of meaning. Vibrant colour fields are ruptured by scratched, scraped, and painted surfaces as well as wild serpentine curves. The static effect of the soft, warm aura of the colours defies the movement and mobility of the contours. The glazes vary in thickness; in some areas, their most delicate layers evoke erased information and blurred memories, rendering a sense of chronology visible. The titles of Gleiwitz's works correspond to the date of their completion. Created through intensive, continuous processes, his paintings reflect experiences of time, capturing fragments of reality.
Gregor Gleiwitz has been exhibited in numerous international solo and group exhibitions and is featured in notable collections such as the Städel Museum, Museum Kunstpalast, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Sammlung Philara, and the National Museum in Gdańsk.
