Photo + Umwelten
The exhibition presents the works by four artists under the title umwelten. The term umwelten (plural from the German "Umwelt" meaning "environment" or "surroundings") is a concept of environment and was introduced in 1909 by Baltic German biologist Jakob Johann von Uexküll. Uexküll theorised that organisms can have different umwelten, even though they share the same environment. Uexküll also speaks of so-called bubbles or garments that surround us, which differ from those of other living beings, sometimes considerably, due to their sensory and range capabilities.
